What I’ve learned
I finally know what that thing next to the “Editor’s Letter” inside a magazine is called, which is “Masthead.” I’ve also learned how they go about creating the magazine. It goes: Flatplan > collection of content > put together and design in Adobe InDesign > edit the pdf > finalize > (because they are a online magazine) post magazine on issue.com
First Assessment
Redesign a past intern’s presentation as a mockup. I had to recreate the presentation fit, it I took some creative licence and reorganize some of the elements they way I think it should look as another mockup. The Editor in Chief then choose between mine and the recreation, she chose mine. I then had to edit some key details and transfer over to a PowerPoint. There wasn’t any set deadline but I started right away.
How I went about it
Even though my hours are Tuesday 3-8pm and Wednesday 1-6pm, when I was assigned this project in orientation, on Monday 4/31/14, I began the next day before I went to the internship place. I started at 4:50a to 9:40a. I took a break so I could be finishing at the internship place. I emailed her the mockups between 3:30 – 5:20p. Then on Wednesday I started to do a .mockup of the presentation in PowerPoint. By 5:15 when she got there she gave me feedback and I started right away. She then gave me one more round of feedback before I left for the day. After I emailed her the touch ups on the design, because I wasn’t aware, she commented that the body copy was off. So she gave me the right set of body copy and a few other small changes to touch up on.
Well next time I have to make sure I have to right body copy, and the ask more questions on what I’m doing – instead of going head first into a project with little knowledge on what is correct. Also, hopefully this is the final version which I’m sending today by 8p, after I look it over for anything I need to change or fix.
