What are your feelings about eating meat?
On a personal level I’m not able to survive without eating a complex protein, that is mainly found in meat. Which sucks because I have tried going vegan, but that led to not so healthy results.
Besides that I think it’s gross. Even if you do all your research to get the best quality, along with making sure the animals are treated humanely, you still run the risk of diseases. Also texture wise and taste is horrible.
But compared to overproduced vegan alternatives, meat is a healthier option. I’m not speaking about the chicken nuggets or overproduced meats. Comparing beef, pork, chicken, seafood at its base form to vegan “plant based meats” you’re better off eating the real thing.
I do appreciate vegan alternatives like beans and tofu. Personally I’m allergic to mushrooms. So my vegetarian options are extremely limited. I’m also allergic to a variations of fruits. But if I stick to tofu and beans as meat alternatives I would be okay.
Yet, once again, these balance alternatives lack the complexity of nutrition that meat has. Making it difficult to not become malnutrition. One would have to rely on supplements to balance out everything, but then you become reliant on something isn’t naturally good for you.
Food is one of those things where not eat a complex diet can truly affect us. Not saying it’s difficult to get all your nutrient from being vegetarian, but if you don’t know how your body responds to certain things it can become unhealthy. One would need to do a lot of research to understand how to be vegetarian in a healthy way. Along with slowing removing meat from their diet.
Sometimes it sucks having to rely on eating meat for protein and other vitamins and minerals. But vegetables and fruits lack some of the complexities or not have enough of a certain vitamin/mineral to equate to a healthy diet.
I will say, sometimes I find it funny how some people defend their veganism. I interchange vegan and vegetarian a lot because of the core principles of eating no meat. I understand one is more lenient on “meat” and byproducts (like dairy). Hence why I think the way people speak about their veganism and vegetarianism to be silly.
They can live the lifestyle and be very environmentally conscious, but I find some of them hypocrites in the sense of not taking into account the many nuances about everyday living. I, myself, would be considered a hypocrite to others, which makes it even more ridiculous.
The argument of eggs and dairy products, along with seafood, is where that hypocrisy lies. Is egg considered “meat”? Why is dairy products ok compared to it being wrong to eating from the cow? Is bread truly vegan, even though it requires a living organism to create it? Yeast is alive.
A lot of vegans arguments go out the window when the argument is “I don’t want to eat something that was alive”. By the definition of “alive” then all you’re really left to eat are certain types of rocks. Because plants are very much alive. Yeast is alive.
Then when it comes to vegan products, like soap and clothes. The ingredients and sources are all nice and all that, but these items still need to be produced. Which means non-vegan methods are used. Like having to use plastic molding, to the process of making recycled paper.
It’s difficult but in reality nothing is truly vegan or fully environmentally friendly. Something has to come from somewhere. These things have to be made and collected. We, humans, produce waste at an unsustainable level, along with demand products at unsustainable rate.
It’s why the whole meat debate is halfhearted and sad. It’s also selfish, but as creatures we do what we can to survive. We’re parasites to this planet we call home, but we also fit the same criteria as any other species.
