Journal:
Sometimes I find it funny that every time I look into the concept of bullet journals or junk journals, I get a sense of unease because the idea of journalling seems new to some people. I’ve been technically journaling since elementary school. Yet when I look at people designing spreads or adding functional layouts, I feel inadequate. Then, when I step back, I notice that many bullet journal concepts are just personalized agenda layouts. Unless you’re someone who has never used a school agenda book before, I can clearly see how this can develop into a type of journal style.
This also aligns with other forms of “journaling.” To me, a journal has always been just a book where you put your thoughts down. Granted, my school agendas made tracking classes and homework easier, so I can see why someone would want a personalized version. There are also junk journals, which remind me of scrapbooks. So even though names and forms have changed over the years, the concept remains the same.
For example, to me, my sketchbook is considered a journal. That is because I practice drawing, I write things down, and I doodle things I think about. My sketchbook and journals are literally a mix of everything I do and think. Hence why my digital journal, which is my blogs and social media accounts, is just an extension of what I do in the physical sense. I write, I draw, and a lot of times there’s no connection besides everything coming from me.
