There’s a few things I noticed at my internship. Even thou we was supposed to be mentored I noticed how people went about it. From the start I didn’t like the design of what they were doing, but I found the people to be nice. I took upon myself to communicate with them, instead of waiting for work or someone to help me. I took it upon myself to ask if what I was doing was on the right track of what they wanted. I saw my internship to be more of a learning to communicate with Pete, and trying to understand them and their views. It was more of give and take than waiting to be given. Most of my other co-workers, who were also interns, came to think that the company wasn’t doing their job right, and that they weren’t being thought anything. In their eyes they were convenience that they were being used to just do the company’s work, and not get paid. Even thou I agree with some of their concepts, I didn’t take it as so. They were not even trying to take what they could, like asking the right questions to keep the ball going. Before I even started my internship I did some research on my field and found out it wasn’t what I thought in the first place either. My field is more about group and learning from each other, not a one sided thing.
I could go on about how I felt how my work looked better than theirs, but that’s my opinion. If they are successful in what they have, then there are people who finds what they do good, so I shouldn’t complain. I just have to remember what I can do and what I know isn’t always the best way. In a sense I come to like the “PEOPLE” at my internship, and made it my job to keep in contact with them with every step of my work. I didn’t leave it to chance that they would take a piece of their day to help me if I was just sitting there and waiting. I must say I didn’t learn much on the design side of the business but I did learn how to communicate with people to keep the business going. I improved my people skilled, which was really lacking before hand, and because I got that chance I am a better “PERSON” and designer because of it. One shouldn’t only see the design side as the only thing, but also look at the people side. Someone who wants to have a career that not only makes money, but also not feel as if the word “work” belongs to say what they are doing, it is to content with people and be more group focus than self focus. And this is coming from someone who always thought she would work alone, and enjoy that. It now she realized how important it is to talk with people and work in a group. She also realized how stronger her works become when she does work in a group. I do a lot of self projects, but when I get feedback my work gets stronger.
I don’t take the fact I learned not much about design at my internship, but I did learn enough to improve and research new things. Because of my internship I’m more looking into more digital work. Compare to print, and also it help me use the business side of graphic design. I found my internship to be awesome, I can’t say the same about the other interns.
