Chapter 4
Once my watch was in the bowl, Queen was quick by pulling it away. Then suddenly the lights to the room changed. It went from the flashing club mood lighting to something more subtle and easier on the eyes. A mellow yellow with hints of faded orange. The lights weren’t strong but it did set a calming feeling. Which was all so strange and unexpected.
Then something was slammed in my direction. I didn’t even realize I was breathing heavy until that moment. And when I looked at the object before me, I was surprised to see a set of paper. I haven’t seen paper since high school, unless you don’t count the many books in my study. But why did Queen slam paper in front of me.
It wasn’t until Queen spread out the paper, that I came to realize it was cards, each with a different color. I looked at Queen before looking back at the cards. What exactly was I supposed to do? The colors before me were blue, red, silver, yellow, white, and black. I wonder why these colors. Why is there no purple or green? Or any-other color from the color spectrum? Why these colors?
I looked back up at Queen, and he had his arms crossed while I could hear something being tapped. Was he tapping his foot? Is he waiting for me to do something? Looking back at the colors I wonder if I’m supposed to pick one. How strange. But what would happen once I pick? Only one way to find out.
So I picked the black card. Simple, easy, also happens to be one of my favorite colors. The moment I did, I watched as Queen took back all the colors and started to gather a few items. Was the colors a way to order a drink? Now, this got my attention.
As I watch him do his bartending magic, I was still put off by the quiet. When was the last time I took off my watch, without worrying about anything. This was so strange. At least I got to watch this Queen guy make a drink. Especially with how his clothes moved when he worked with the shaker. It’s then I took note he had long black nails. Not a bad touch. I wonder how they would feel when—
Queen practically slammed the drink in front of me. “What is with you and slamming things?” He handed me a straw and motion as if to tell me to stir. I looked at my drink and was completely confused. “What did you even do? It’s clear with ice.” He motion to stir. “Fine. Fine.”
When I stir the drink I was left speechless. It went from clear to slowing having black glitter clouds appear. What in the world? How was this even possible? I never seen anything like this. No bartender I came across had done something anywhere near this. It was like magic. And when I took a sip I was greatly pleased.
“This is amazing.”
“You’re welcome.” I almost spilled my drink once I heard the robotic voice coming from Queen’s direction. Did he really just talk to me? Even though he was still wearing his helmet. I looked up at him and saw another flash of light pass through his helmet, this time it was yellow. Did the color’s mean something? “Stop staring.”
“HEY!” I put my drink down as I stood up. “You could have talked this whole time, but chose not to. Why?” I watched as Queen walked around the bar and place a hand on my forearm. Somehow I now wish I wasn’t wearing a suit right now.
“Sit.” Strangely I listened. Then Queen did something else I wasn’t expecting.
