The Call. Chapter 3

As I continued walking I tried to recall my lessons with father and Mr. Kashin, that had nothing to do with training. Granted, I barely paid any attention to those boring lectures. But now I wonder if I should. Speaking of which, I decided I should take a moment to look into everything I had in my concealed cape. I only know about my weapons because I personally stored them. Yet I did take note that I had other strange things.

When I found a decent shady spot under a tree, is when I allowed my cape to be revealed with a flick of my wrist. I placed my cape on the ground in front of me and started taking out everything. There was my two sword, one of which was a whip sword. My staff that was taller than me by a few feet, sure it was at least 7 feet while I was a mere 6’2, nothing special. Then there was my second pair of boots that I fought father to allow me to take. Mainly because it was my training boots and I refused to part with them.

That’s when I found two items I couldn’t help smile at. A jar of crystal berry jam and a note on how to make it. Father knows how much I love crystal berry jam. And If this anything was to say about this note then that means I can make the jam in the mortal world. Thank the gods for such mercy. As I looked over the note I couldn’t believe it. It seems all the ingredients that I needed were in something called elf territory. So strange. Regardless, I stuck my finger inside the jam for a quick taste. I don’t know how long it’s been but it feels like forever since I tasted such luxuries.

After that I found two books in my cape. I opened one of the books and saw that the pages were blanked. Is this another one of Mr. Kashirn’ tricks? After setting that book down I went to look at the much smaller second book. Insides was a bunch of writing, so I went to the first page to read. And what I saw I wanted to scream at father and Mr. Kashirn. For what the first pages said. “This what you get for not listening to a single word me and your father said during your lessons.” I was just about to throw the book until I kept reading. “Since I bet you clearly forgot, I’ll remind you. This is what the humans call A rite of passage. Your father is horror at reminding you this kind of things, kid.

“A rite of passage?” I just blinked at the book as I tried to figure out what Mr. Kashirn was even talking about. That’s when I recall one time father and I were hunting hare. I think he asked me something about being excited about going to the mortal plains. “Wait? Was he asking about… FUCK!” I slammed the book on the ground and got up to pace. “Of course! Oh, fucking gods, of course! Father only said I was supposed to lay some souls to rest as a… as a… Damn that old man! Can’t even say farewell to his daughter properly! I swear that old man is something else. I hope Mr. Kashirn turns father’s kitchen inside out again.”

After I took a deep breath I picked up the book again. It turns out to be a basic knowledge book on how the mortal world works. From how time works, basic common phrases, and what some places are called. At that, there was a small map that pointed out where I was, surprisingly. Not to mention, this book informed me that the blank book was a book of endless pages. Now all that’s left is to go to this town called “Coraco Grifo”. Maybe I could get more information that this stupid basic book is missing. Perhaps something of reapers and other things about this whole “Rite of Passage.”
