Core Project Management Fundaments

What is Project Management?

Project management is how someone goes about achieving a desired outcome. The way the person goes about this is to use a set of principles and processes. This is a combination of different methodologies and company cultures.

Project Manager (PM) vs Operation Manager (OM)

Project Manager and Operations Manager both are roles that involve high levels of organization and communication. That is because a PM needs to speak to across a multitude of people to bring together to complete a common goal, i.e.: the project. Whereas a OM must speak across a multitude of departments to support the infrastructure of an organization. The way PM and OM go about communicating to complete their roles are dictated by the company’s Corporate Governance. Which is the framework of the company’s organizational structure and the company’s culture. A powerful tool a PM can use to communicate within a company is the Project Management Office (PMO). Which is a centralized structure within a company on how to conduct decisions. Ex: knowing exactly who to speak to about certain clearances.
