It’s been a while, and I have been avoiding it, but I have gained weight. My lowest weight was in February at 223.8 lbs. After that, I’ve been struggling in the 224-227 lb range for a few months. And as of late, I’m back in the 230 lb range.
I truly have been struggling with multiple factors in my weight loss journey. On the bright side, it was a slow weight gain instead of a fast one. And 230 lbs is a much more doable starting point than my highest weight of 270 lbs.
So, instead of self-pitying myself into doing absolutely nothing to change my circumstances, I’m going to change my approach to my weight loss. For starters, let’s look at what changed since my starting weight of 271 lbs in March 2023 to my absolute lowest weight of 221.9 lbs in July 2025.
All of 2023, I was slowly learning to count calories and become more mindful of the food I was eating. During this time, I was still eating fast food, but I had managed to include it in my overall calorie plan. Then in May I chose to be sober from alcohol.
My weight loss was slow and steady throughout that year. In 4 months I lost 4 lbs. Not too bad of a start.
But from July at 268 I drop to 253 lbs on November of 2023. My progress of learning how to eat properly was starting to pay off. I still didn’t have an official scale at the time. Plus, this is when I stopped eating fast food as protest for Palestine.
My weight did spike a little between December 2023 and April 2024. In December 2023, I completed a full year on HRT. Plus January is always a depressing month for me, so I expected to gain weight.
The depression weight gain peaked in September of 2024 at 256 lbs, before slowly coming back down. I ended 2024 at 239.9 lbs and a few other accomplishments. From total hysterectomy and ovary removal to completing 2 whole years on Testosterone.
Starting weight of 2025 was 242.9 lbs, a decent weight at the start of my depression month and dealing with surgery recovery.
I went up and down throughout the year of 2025. At that, I quit soda in October of 2024. By July 2025, I reached my lowest of 221.9 lbs. Which is pretty close to my college weight. That made me proud.
Yet that weight loss in July was mostly due to my severe lack of self-care. I barely left the bed, barely saw anyone. Heck, I was suffering through severe heat exposure and ammonia exposure from my cat’s litter box.
So I was being hit by circumstances HARD.
After I started to recover from the hit, I started gaining weight again. Bringing me to 232.4 lbs in November of 2025.
I crawled my way back down to 225 lbs in December, just before my top surgery. And so, starting January 2026, my starting weight was 226.4 lbs.
I reached the 228.1 lb mark in April of 2026, and since then I’ve been hovering in the 228-230 lb range. Granted, in May I took a trip to my home city, NYC, and did not count calories. So I expected weight gain during that time. I even drank soda again.
But I am currently trying to get back to my goals. I didn’t talk much about my exercise throughout my weight-loss journey because it was never consistent enough to pinpoint what I could improve. Yet, it has come to my attention, after 3 whole years on HRT and 2 years of no ovaries, that my intense treadmill workouts aren’t going to cut it.
Since I no longer have a chest, I no longer have the roadblock to properly correcting my resistance-training form. Summer just started, and this is typically when my depression hits, but that’s more of a motivation to go to the gym more frequently.
I am going to get back down to 221 lbs. I am going to get down to 200 lbs., and before long I will get down to 150-160 pounds. For my height, I should weigh between 130 and 145 lbs, but I’m aiming for more muscle mass. So technically I will still be considered obese, but I’ll finally not be morbid obese. So a win is a win.
My starting weight as of June 30, 2026 is 228.8 lbs.
